This webinar provides an introduction to extrahepatic biliary duct obstruction cases, focusing on the anatomy and physiology of the biliary system, species differences, common biliary pathologies, patient evaluation, decision-making including when to refer, and an introduction/brief overview of key procedures such as cholecystectomy. We will cover management of biliary diseases and aim to refine the initial approach to these cases. This session serves as a stepping stone for further study and skill development.

Dr Matthew Simpson
BVMS MVetMed DipECVS FHEA MRCVS | RCVS & EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
Matthew is currently a lecturer in small animal surgery at the Royal Veterinary College in London. He did his residency there and passed his board exams in 2024. He has previous experience of working in multiple referral hospitals and charity practice prior to his residency. He is interested in all aspect of small animal surgery, particularly soft tissue emergency cases and thoracic surgery.
