About this Lecture
About this Lecture
In many wild psittacines, a large part of the daytime is spent on foraging, which comprises all activities related to the search for and procurement and consumption of food. In captive birds, time spent on these activities is often limited due to food being readily available in large quantities in a food bowl. Foraging enrichment can be a meaningful way to help stimulate natural foraging behavior in captive birds, resulting in improved health and welfare of the bird. This lecture discusses the importance, benefits and ways of providing foraging enrichment to birds, including tips, tricks and strategies to set the bird up to become a successful forager.
