About this Lecture
About this Lecture
Veterinary anaesthesia has developed rapidly since it’s first applications in the 1800s. Throughout time with improving evidence we have been able to refine our practices and provide higher levels of anaesthesia care to our patients. However even with the uptake of evidence based medicine there are still some anaesthesia myths that have persisted and others that have been formed with the advent of new drugs and ways of doing things.
This lecture will delve into a few current anaesthesia myths and break down the evidence behind them and how we can use the current literature to improve our anaesthesia practices.
We will discuss the use of alfaxalone and propofol and which might be better, compare medetomidine, dexmedetomidine and medetomidine/vatinoxan, debate total intravenous anaesthesia versus gaseous anaesthesia, tackle the concept of a patient being too old for anaesthesia, explore options for patient recoveries.
